Personality: Overall, Aliya tries to maintain a proper soldier attitude, a bit too much in the views of some. She keeps her cool, observes the orders of those higher ranked than her with no questions asked, and avoids wasting time on ‘pointless things’. It is most likely because of her upbringing, so she does not know much, but part of it is also her trying to compensate for her handicap. She doesn’t want people to look down on her because she only has one good eye and so she acts in such a way to show that she’s as capable as anybody else, often mixing in a bit of a ‘tough guy’ act. For the most part though, this is just an act that is put up around other officers, and those that she doesn’t know.
When it comes to those she is familiar with, as well as those in her unit, she’s not quite as…stiff. She still doesn’t truly question orders, and maintains a calm attitude, but those are more so by habit than anything. She shows obvious concern for her friends and allies and tries to act so that they can avoid harm. It’s sort of an older sister act, or a mother act depending on who you ask, but it won’t really change how she acts even if you say so to her face.
Perhaps another part of her upbringing is that she will never try to make up an excuse for something that happened, and only say what actually occurred. If it was something caused by an action of hers, she will admit as much, and if she truly had nothing to do with it, then that’s what she’d say. It’s mainly because she believes that if she speaks the truth, than a resolution can be reached quicker, but there’s a bit of influence from her father in that if she comes clean with anything of her own fault, those punishing her might be more lenient. Either way, don’t expect her to lie. Nothing’s really come up yet that would bring her to do so anyway.
Despite what you’d think, she is rather easily embarrassed, but not by her own deeds. It’s when people do things around her that she’d get embarrassed, especially if it’s someone that she knows. The way she was raised taught her what was acceptable and what wasn’t, and she tends to have a bit of a freak out if someone does the latter since she doesn’t know how to react to it. Typically, she’d try to get them to stop, but it usually doesn’t work.
History: Aliya never actually knew her real parents, as they had fled from Kenificus Vector shortly after her birth. The reason for this was that because the hospital they regulared wasn't exactly...up to date, they didn't find out about her mother being a carrier for the Candeoan gene until after their child had been born. Because they were unable to afford to have the father checked to see if he was a carrier, they began to grow paranoid that people would begin to shun them as well, because if their child turned out to be a Candeoan, then they too would be labeled as such. So they left the child in the care of someone that they just met in the hospital lobby, so that there would be no way to track them, and fled the city.
The person that she had been left in the care of was an officer for the Beowulves, a young man in his early thirties at the time. Although he had been with a few women before, he never truly settled down, since his job as a Beowulf made his future rather uncertain. He certainly enjoyed the company of these women, but he couldn't leave his comrades behind. When he had been placed into the role of a father, even if it was merely adoptive, he wasn't exactly sure what to do. Fortunately, his superior was willing to give him some time off so he could raise his new child, mainly because for the time things had calmed down in Kenificus Vector.
His life style had given him a number of contacts that he could call on for help, so thankfully, he was not out of luck. The first few years of Aliya's life had been normal, though she had been cared for by a number of women based on who was free and who wasn't at any given time. The thing that stayed consistent for her though was her father, and so her attachment to him was much stronger than to any of her 'mothers'.
Once she was about five, her father began to teach her about being a soldier. He realized that should anything happen to him, he wanted there to be a direction in her life that she could follow, and the only thing he knew well enough to teach was being part of the military. At first, it was difficult for her to grasp a lot of the things he was telling her, so it was all simplified enough for her to begin to understand. It only escalated from there, his paycheck being used to fund a regular education for her as well as continuing to keep up her military training at home. Between the two, she never really learned much about being social, or about doing things for herself.
The lack of a personal life though was something she didn’t mind. Since she never knew what one was in the first place, she could never truly complain about not having one at this point in time. She enjoyed the life she had, because she was learning so much about so many things, and that in turn was making her father happy. The main lesson that stuck with her though was that her comrades were her life; if they fell, then she’d fall too. It was something that both ensured her own survival, but put importance in the lives of those around her. This would grow into a natural born concern for others.
Once she was old enough, she enlisted into the Beowulves and went through basic training. Although she had a bit of practice in the use of firearms from her father, she could never really get the hang of it, and training didn’t help much with that. She showed more promise in the CQC portion of her training, and her knowledge of how to act and ability to keep calm under stressful circumstances was mainly what got her through training. They eventually decided that she would make a valuable close quarters fighter and passed her through training.
The night following the news, Aliya’s father took her to celebrate her passing. He had been rather worried that her lack of skill with firearms would cause them to reject her, so the good news was a huge weight off of his shoulders. Although nothing really major took place during the actual celebration, aside from him ending up somewhat drunk, it was what took place afterwards that made it a memorable point in her life. It isn’t a good kind of a memorable, though.
It was around two in the morning when the two were finally going back home when a small gang of Orochi popped out. They recognized her father, since he regularly patrolled the area, and decided to have some fun with the drunken Beowulf. A fight ensued between the two of them and the six Orochi, and while they had actual combat training on their side, it wouldn’t do much good. His drunkenness made him pretty much useless in the fight and she wasn’t capable enough to fend them all off. Given how easy of a win it was for them, they decided to just have fun and hurt them some, but not actually kill them. A number of knife wounds and bruises were inflicted, none of it fatal, and they decided to be rather generous because the pair had put up so little resistance.
A passerby decided to ruin that, by screaming and calling the police. The gang knew they didn’t have long, and decided it was best to try and clear the scene of any witnesses. One of them happened to be a pyromancer Candeoan, and tried to set the whole area on fire as they fled the scene. Aliya’s father wasn’t able to escape before he was consumed in the flames, as the alcohol in his breath caught fire and only served to make things worse. Aliya, while able to escape the flames in time, did not leave them unmarked, as the right side of her face along with her right arm were burned. Police arrived shortly after, and Aliya passed out from bloodloss before she could see anything else.
She awoke about three days later, after a blood transfusion to replace everything she lost and quite a bit of necessary rest to make sure things didn’t worsen. Her right eye had been seared shut and permanently damaged, and although they were able to replace the burnt areas on her arm, they weren’t able to do anything about her face. She didn’t care though, it served as a reminder of what she lost by being unable to defend her comrade, and why she couldn’t let a repeat of that happen.
It took a few months of rehabilitation, but she was able to overcome her new handicap and convince the higher officers that she could still fight. After that, she was assigned to the 13th Combat Unit, due to their group having taken severe losses and needing new units.
Other: While she does not have any powers, natural born or through tech, she is physically stronger and faster than the typical adult due to training since she was a young child.
And clearly either the commanders weren’t sane at the time that they allowed her to go out with just fists alone, or they believed that she was that skilled.
