Appearance

Close up of him wearing his level IIIA ballistic vest. (Level IIIA provides protection from high power pistols.)
Fred is Caucasian, being slightly tanned, he stands at 6' 2", and weighs 178 pounds. He has short, black hair, which he keeps in the standard Beowulf cut, and has brown eyes. He is fairly muscular from his own workout, as well as the workout that is mandated by the Beowulves, both of these allow him to stay in excellent shape. Fred also has several burn scars on his back, and arms from when a IFV (Infantry fighting vehicle) he was in was hit by an RPG and he had been stuck inside of it while it burned until another member of his unit saved him, scars from shrapnel and blades cutting him, and several scars from being shot.
He wears fingerless gloves most of the time, even when off-duty, this allows him to keep a better grip on his weapons while also providing some protection for his hands. Fred also has knee-pads on most of the time to allow him to crouch for a better firing position for longer periods of time. He wears fingered gloves when expecting the cold or planning to fire for an extended time, wearing them for protection from the cold or heat respectively. Fred also has a somewhat crooked nose because it had been broken earlier in his life. He also has a tattoo of a smoking clown's face on his right forearm, and a tattoo of the emblem of his old unit, the 8th Infantry Division.
For clothes he wears his dress uniform for formal events, and utility uniforms, that he will wear with medium level military armour when he knows that he will be going into combat. When he is off-duty he wears short-sleeve T-shirts of various colours, military style cargo pants of various colours, black or brown boots, a leather jacket depending on the weather, as well as his level IIIA ballistic vest. Ballistic Vest levels and performance.
While he is either on-duty as well as off-duty, Fred has magazine pouches on both his vests and belt. When on-duty he has a larger vest so this allows him to keep a few pistol magazine pouches on it, as well as at least six rifle magazine pouches. His level IIIA vest (Which is for off-duty.) allows him to carry several magazines, though he mainly carries pistol magazines with it, but will have two rifle magazines on it as well he also keeps four pistol magazines on his belt. His vests also allow him to carry his knife and other equipment he may need. Fred also wears a digital watch that also has a compass mounted in it on his left arm, with the face on his wrist.
For combat operations, Fred wears a full set of armor, which allows him to have added protection and carry more of his equipment, though this is at the cost of mobility but with the needs of modern warfare, he needs to have that equipment on him. Specifically his radio and headset, which he even keeps with him off-duty. Fred also wears shooting sunglasses on clear days, as well as several hats.

Personal
Personality: Fred is very strict when it comes to military rules and military and civilian laws, and believes that force will solve problems faster and more efficiently then any other means, seeing the rifle as the best tool of diplomacy as it is much more effective at "converting" someones point of view compared to most other ways, he is also very calm in most situations, although someone insulting the military angers him faster than just about anything besides members of the military breaking laws and regulations.
Fred also loves the smells, sights, and sounds during combat, as well as combat in general, due to this he tries to get into combat as often as possible, volunteering for any mission he hears of that would have combat in it regardless of what the odds are for them since he enjoys combat more the harder it is, he also does not try to avoid getting into fights but makes sure to not just randomly start one. As far as he is concerned, the Beowulves don't start fights, they end them even in a preemptive attack.
He also seems to enjoy killing, although not as much as combat and only when killing an enemy, he detests killing friendlies and non-combatants. Due to this several people around him see him as a lunatic and say he is in love with war, he does not let it bother him as he considers it to be partly true. He often seems rather cold about things due to being so strict, but he tries his best to do the right thing when he can help, if he knows he can't do anything he does not his waste the time trying.
History: Fred was born to a soldier and his wife in Kenificus Vector and since they were both from military families he was raised to be in the military as well since the time he was ten years old, being shown how to use weapons at a young age, mostly so that he could use them effectively later in his life. Due to this he is a very good shot with various types of firearms, other than that he pretty much had a normal childhood aside from being sent to a military school by his parents to help prepare him for the actual military.
Due to his parents teaching him to shoot he tended to be a better shot then the other students there, but he was about the average when it came to hand to hand training, and was slightly above average with most normal schoolwork. While attending the military school, Fred had once started a fight with another student, hand to hand of course, and because of his skill in hand to hand compared to the other student Fred had ended up losing and received a broken nose for his trouble, and due to this his nose is off center.
Sometime after he graduated he went with his father to get a rifle for himself, so that the two of them could have shooting competitions with each other, with their own weapons. Although they had only been able to have the competitions a short time before Fred had to go to high school, but he was outclassed by his father every time since he had much less experience and skill with weapons. His father saw becoming a better shot as something for Fred to reach for so he made sure they had them as much as possible.
While in high school Fred continued to get above average grades, but tended to get very bored since he was still used to the military school he had gone to when he was younger. Although he made more friends while in high school then in any of the other schools he had been in, as well as having a group of friends that planned to enlist together when they were old enough. Due to this they were his closest friends and after they had gotten out of high school all of them had enlisted in the Beowulves except for one that had died in a car accident several years before they finished high school.
Although, not all of them had finished boot camp, some being kicked out or dropping out due to being unable to take it, and in the end only Fred and one other of his friends got into the military, both getting expert ratings with rifles, although they had been sent to different units when they were assigned. With Fred being in the infantry and his friend being put into a support unit. For a while Fred had used the issued armor and uniform, but there was an incident when the IFV he had been in on his second operation was hit by an RPG and he had been stuck inside of it due to the armor.
While most of his body was protected by the full set of armor, he had been burned on his back and arms, and decided to use lighter armor since it would let him get out easier even if it provided less protection, and while he saw it as an improvement since he was able to follow fleeing enemies much better, as well as having better mobility in general, he also began to be wounded a lot more due to the lower amount of protection so he has scars on most of his body from combat. He prefers to wear medium armor, the issue armor is more like a bomb disposal unit's armor in his mind, and light armor doesn't offer enough protection for military engagements.
He tends to have a pack cigarettes and a lighter with him almost all the time, although he doesn't smoke much and only has them so he can smoke if he feels like it. While off duty Fred wears a ballistic vest that he bought so that he would be able react to situations that may come up if he needs to as well as just so he can have some protection off duty after someone in his unit was killed as they were walking home from shopping while off duty, although it can only stop high power pistol rounds and even then the force they hit with can still kill him through it if it damages his vital organs enough. In his mind, he is never off-duty so he typically wears things that allow him to fight all the time.
He prefers a rifle over any other type of weapon, but he also enjoys to use explosives as well, because he likes the sound and look of an explosion, although sometimes he had been hit by shrapnel from his own explosives when he was still a rookie, since he was much to eager to fight. Fred makes sure to look out for those in his unit, doing his best to never leave anyone behind including running out while under fire to drag them to cover.
Due to the Beowulf personal getting more experience, better training, and better equipment over the years, Fred has had less and less to do in his old unit, the 8th Infantry division. So after hearing that the 13th Combat Operation Unit was looking for volunteers to replace 90% of the team after they had been killed in their latest mission, Fred had volunteered as soon as he could because he heard that they got into combat a lot and he figured that if 90% of the team was killed in a single mission, then they must get sent into heavy fighting. He hasn't met his new team-mates yet because he's just recently been transferred.

Action: Gas-operated, Rotating bolt
Muzzle velocity: 905 m/s (2,970 ft/s)
Fire Mode: Semi-Automatic and fully automatic
Feed system: 30 5.56x45mm round detachable box magazine
Sights: Various sight systems, but Fred mainly uses a 4x32 ACOG scope with BUIS (Back-Up Iron Sights.) mounted behind the scope.
Effective range: It is most effective at ranges of 300 meters or less with the M23 5.56x45mm rounds, with a maximum effective range of about 800 meters (Due to being able to penetrate more targets and having more velocity by that point.).
It is most effective at ranges of 450 meters (Due to the longer fragmentation range.) or less with the M34 5.56x45mm rounds, and it has a maximum effective range of about 700 meters.
Note: As with all spitzer shaped projectiles, the round fired by this weapon is prone to yaw in soft tissue. When it impacts a soft target, such as human flesh, it will begin to yaw and then fragment at the cannelure (the groove around the cylinder of the bullet due to the sudden loss of speed when inside of a human body tearing this section apart). These fragments can disperse through flesh and bone, inflicting additional internal injuries. Fragmentation is somewhat velocity dependent, however it is able to consistently fragment up to 700 meters, past that the lower velocity will not allow the round to fragment.
Fragmentation, when it occurs, seems to impart much greater damage to tissue than bullet dimensions and velocities would suggest. In older bullet designs, this fragmentation effect was highly dependent on velocity, and therefore barrel length: short-barreled rifles generate less muzzle velocity and therefore lose effectiveness at much shorter ranges than longer-barreled rifles, modern designs however can fragment up to around 700 meters. The normal M23 is used for about half of his military operations, where hard targets or armor are likely to be found, with the newer M34 being used for everything else most of the time due to the much better wound channel, as such the M34 is Fred's typical off-duty round, and he picks between the M34 and M23 when on-duty based on the mission type.
