For many centuries, magic was considered a thing of myth. It was something that only existed in fairy tales told to young children to help them sleep at night, in the games children played, and in their imagination. Those who took their love for the mystical art took professions such as Fortune Telling or Magicians, though most dismissed their acts as nothing more than that. An act. Thus, these men and women were nothing more than cons who entertained the masses by faking feats of magic. True, some were not magical at all and had explanations for some of their tricks that fit into the world of logic, but others…they were something else. Some had tricks that could not be explained by any form of logic or science, it just happened. People still didn’t believe it was real and simply made up stories about how they did it and simply called them overly elaborate parlor tricks.
In the year of 1926, after the death of Harry Houdini, the world was changed. Scientists grew curious as to how he could do such things and, seeing as the concept of DNA was already floating around at this time, they had the idea to test his and see if there was something special about him. They took a sample of his DNA, though they still didn’t entirely understand the substance, and then the DNA of an average person who worked in an office. Upon comparison, there was something odd. There was a section of Houdini’s DNA that actually glowed in various colors, where as that same section of DNA on the other was normal. This lead to the sped up research of DNA as well as the beginning of magic research, something scientists never expected to happen. However, with this discovery, it seemed the idea of the mystical arts actually might have had some backing to them.
By the year 1935, the concept of DNA was further explored and clarified, signaling its importance. However, more importantly, the confirmation of this strange phenomenon known as ‘magic’ was found when thousands of magicians, fortune tellers, and all those sorts of people worldwide were tested and each and every one had that same glowing section of DNA. They were initially named ‘Magi’, an old fantasy term used to describe the general category of magic users. The Magi were seen as the next step in humanity and seen as greater beings, treated in society as royalty, in a sense. As a matter of fact, this completely averted World War II as Hitler’s claims were torn to shreds, seeing as even some Jewish people were born as Magi. Thus, that global disaster was averted and instead, the globe turned its eyes towards using this new discovery to further humanity’s dominance.
As the world progressed, so did its knowledge of Magi. The gene that allowed Magi to do the things they did was really a recessive gene, so it would require both parents to be carriers or Magi to give birth to a Magi. Incomplete Dominance did not apply, so there was no such thing as a ‘Half-Magi’. They also could only do things that were physically possible, such as creating fire from the combination of their energy and friction. Thus, they were seen as more of a scientific breakthrough than magic users, and in the twenty-first century, they were renamed Candeoans, the latin word for ‘glowing’, a name given thanks to the trait of their DNA.
The years passed by and soon, a single, massive metropolis was built in central Europe, structured around a single laboratory made to develop Kenificus, the name of the technology based on the power of the Candeoans. This metropolis was named Kenificus Vector, though some like to call it Kenvector for short. It was in this metropolis that many technological breakthroughs and developments would be made, both for the good of mankind and against it. The government was quickly transformed into a dictatorship and under this rule, Kenvector actually grew quite rapidly. People flocked to the growing land, wanting to get the finest Kenificus technology before it was out in the rest of the world. It wasn’t long before it became a small nation, legally, and built its own private defense army. This army was known as the Beowulves, regarded for their ferocity and ruthless nature. In order to ensure the Beowulves would never be short on manpower, their dictator approved and began the project of cloning human beings. Many failed ones were made, but eventually successful clones were created and they were continually made. Eventually, they took over the roles of law enforcement and home protection, only having human higher ups to prevent any possible resistance from forming among them.
In the year 2083, news leaked about the government using, what they called, ‘Candle Farms’ to raise more Candeoans and create improved Kenificus technology. In fact, it was also discovered that the very gene was extracted from Candeoans in order to create the Kenificus technology’s energy supply. This news having gotten out, along with the knowledge of human cloning being done to increase their manpower and steal jobs from hard working people, caused the formation of the Orochi, a band of rebels that sought to bring about a revolution in Kenvector.
Things started out small, incidents occuring here and there, but it was nothing extreme. However, about half a year after the emergence of the Orochi, a series of attacks took place all over Kenificus Vector. These attacks were executed by a single member of the Orochi known simply as 'Jackal'. Nobody knew who he was or where he came from, but he caused more chaos throughout Kenificus Vector than any other members of Orochi, and after about a month, it ended. The media said that 'Jackal' had been captured and executed by the Beowulves, but because no footage of the execution exists, it's uncertain exactly what happened to him.
It was shortly after these incidents that the Orochi Eight began to form, seeming to follow in the footsteps of Jackal as they caused a greater amount of chaos than most. They had much more power, as they had greater numbers, and were the most organized groups of Orochi to exist. Things escalated from isolated terrorist attacks into a full blown civil war within the walls of the city.
It's been a year since the emergence of the Orochi Eight, putting things in January of the year 2085, and the war has shown no signs of letting up. Just what will the fate of Kenificus Vector and the Candeoans be?
