Fred, having just arrived at his new base of operations from his old station in Avaritia, was a bit curious as to what his new team members were like, from what he'd heard there were two others in the 13th Combat unit at the moment. As soon as he'd stepped off of the helicopter he started walking away from it while the rest of the guys that had been aboard and hadn't already disembarked made their way off of the vehicle. Once he was a reasonable distance away from the helicopter he had dropped his bag and put his rifle down before he pulled out a cigarette and lit it, he'd taken in a few breaths before picking up his bag and rifle, which was without it's shotgun and loaded with M23 rounds. Fred then began heading for the 13th's barracks area, his orders were to report there as soon as possible so that's what he was gonna do. His M12 pistol was loaded with the M25 rounds, partly due to the higher penetration ability of the newer round, thanks to it's higher speed and slightly smaller surface, it wasn't gonna penetrate most armor, but was still nice to have. Though he'd rather the M22s since penetration for a pistol, through armor anyway (Since a pistol penetrates most walls better then a rifle.), was a bad joke, and the M22s left a bigger hole. Sadly though he'd been unable to get any of the older rounds for now.
He'd of course run over, since he was in full gear at the moment he wasn't running that fast, but still made pretty good time anyway. He was used to the armor, like his weapons it was a part of his body, sure it added weight and made him a bit larger, but he'd worn body armor for years, and compared to some of it, these forty pounds of armor, not counting his other equipment, were light, so he didn't even notice the weight being added anymore. A few more years in it and he might start to feel naked without it, just like he did when unarmed. The M12's were helping with that though, they were a small, lightweight, concealable pistol that had a high magazine capacity, as well as very good bullets, the hollow-points did their job wonderfully. Plus, the thing was very accurate, for a pistol. He'd take a rifle over it any day, but he couldn't keep a pistol with him all the time. While he was able to have his knife on him most of the time as well, it was a knife and not only did he prefer shooting a bad guy, but a gun, even a pistol, killed them better, and from a greater distance too.
But anyway once he'd seen the barracks he started to slow down a bit, so that he could finish his cigarette, or at least not waste it by only using it for the short run over. Once he got in front of the building he took the cigarette out of his mouth and dropped it to the ground before stepping on it to put it out. He then walked to the door and opened it before walking into the building. He didn't see anyone else in there, so he shrugged and went to a bunk that didn't have anything around it, and dropped his bag onto it before placing his rifle down onto the bunk. Fred then took off his helmet, sunglasses, and shoulder pads before sitting down on the bunk, watching the door as he awaited his new commander.

Not far behind Fred on their way to the barracks was Aliya, who had come out this way after going through the building to get accustomed to the layout some. She wanted to be able to at least know her way around somewhat when the time came to report for duty. She didn't have much else to do anyway while she waited to meet up with the rest of the 13th unit, so why not make good use of her time?
A few minutes after Fred arrived, Aliya stepped in the doors to the barracks and moved over to her own bunk, which just had a dufflebag placed on it to claim it as hers. She didn't carry much, since she didn't need to haul around ammo and parts for guns. She was more of a hazzard using one in her current state than she was when she had both of her eyes in working order. Thankfully, her abilities had proven enough for them to let her stay in, so there she was. She was wearing her standard suit, black this time, with the appropriate black tie and white collared shirt underneath it. She had her gloves on as well, but for the moment she didn't feel the need to wear them so she pulled them off and tossed them on the bed beside her bag.
"I'm going to assume you're new to the unit like I am. I had heard the only remaining member of the thirteenth was a woman." she commented to Fred, mostly indifferent right now. She'd probably lighten up once she actually knew him. She took a seat on the bed and looked at him with her good eye, taking quick glances at the various equipment he had with him. Well, at least they had brought someone in who was trained in the use of guns. That'd help counterbalance her own flaws.

When he saw the door start to open, Fred's hand instinctively went to his pistol, he saw that she seemed to be unarmed, and let go of his sidearm, if she wasn't armed and had gotten this far in the base, she was probably a friendly. Fred then watched the young woman walk over to another bunk, she had seemed to ignore him so far, which he thought was a bit odd, but once she had taken off her gloves she had regarded him, asking if he was new to the unit as well since she'd only heard of another woman in the unit. He nodded, he hadn't stood up to salute since he figured that if she was a higher rank, or if she cared about that anyway she'd have mentioned it. "Yeah, I'm Sergeant Major Fred Johnson. But based on what you said, I take it you're not the First Lieutenant. But anyway, shouldn't you be armed or at least wear some armor? Some of those lunatics are stupid enough to attack a base. It's as annoying as it is fun though."
Fred says to her, he was rather confused as to why she would walk around unarmed, and even without any external armor. He couldn't tell if she had concealable armor since, by definition, it would be concealable, so he was just going by what he could see. Maybe she just felt more at ease, even on base, then he did? He'd probably find out at some point, the way he saw it, he can't work with his teammates unless he knew how they thought, how they fought, their personalities, and their limits so he planned to spend time getting to know them in the future. Plus since the First Lieutenant wasn't here, he didn't really have anything else to do at the moment.

"Unfortunately, I've never had much talent with a gun, and a certain accident only made the problem worse. I'm not unarmored though. I wear a kevlar vest underneath my suit and my limbs are covered with both kevlar and chainmail," Aliya explained, lifting the tuft of hair to show the injured side of her face for a moment before letting it fall back down. She figured it'd seem odd that she was unarmed, so she prepared the summary of why she doesn't have any weapons.
"As for the lack of any weapon, as odd as it seems, my talents lie in unarmed combat. I keep my armor hidden underneath my clothing so that I can catch the enemy by surprise. As far as anybody on the streets would be concerned, I just look like a business woman who got into an unfortunate accident," she added on, hoping that at least her explanation made sense. It was odd, she knew that, but hopefully it was an understandable point. It was after that that she realized she still hadn't given her name.
"Oh, I'm Sergeant Aliya Amira by the way. I hope that we'll work well together in the future." Aliya had decided to voice her good intent. After all, if they couldn't work together as a unit, then...they'd have tough times ahead, to say the least.

Fred had almost laughed when she said that she'd never had much skill with firearms, in his mind this was an odd career choice if you didn't use any firearms. She'd also told him that she did in fact have some concealable armor, which was good, at least she wasn't a moron, some people took the "wear anything you like" thing a bit too far and lost protection because of it. But she'd then shown him a scar on her face, and he nodded. "I guess that makes sense. Funny how with all the advancements in the medical field they still can't fix that huh? But hey, better then it used to be at least." Fred says to her.
She then explained why she was unarmed and why she wore her armor the way she did. "Well, that is a pretty good plan. Blending in I mean. No knife though? Not exactly the same as fighting unarmed, but pretty close in my experience." She then mentioned her accident again, which made Fred begin to wonder what exactly had happened anyway. She then introduced herself, confirming that she was a lower rank then him, as well as stating that she hoped they worked well together. "A team's useless if it's members can't work together so I would hope we do as well." From what she said, it seemed that she had the same thoughts as he did when it came to getting to know your team, which was very good.
"So anyway, what exactly was your accident? That is if you don't mind my asking. Looks like it was pretty bad if it cost you your eye." Fred says to her, he figured that would count as part of getting to know your team better.

Donet reviewed the dossiers on the projected future members of the 13th in one of the empty briefing rooms. It was her job as a First Lieutenant and the on duty officer to keep ontop of things. With things like they were however the list was rather short, not many wanted to be in the 13th after all.
Pushing two of the folders away she opened up the remaining two. "Sergeant Major Fred Johnson and Sergeant Aliya Amira." Unfamiliar names, but they'd get to know each other better. As she scanned the papers however she noticed something rather pressing. The dates of their transfer matched today's date perfectly.
The stealth suit clad woman, ignored the fact she hadn't gotten to the dossiers earlier and quickly gathered the folders up. This was one of the many times she wished she had some sort of administration assistance and she quickly bolted out of the briefing room and passed by a few administration drones.
Since they were new they'd be in the barracks, or atleast that's what she hoped. When she neared the barracks she could hear two people talking, taking a moment to catch her breath she then opened the door and stepped inside. "Sergeant Major Johnson and Sergeant Amira, I'm assuming? I'm First Lieutenant Nowell, welcome to the 13th."

Aliya was rather relieved to hear his response to them wanting to work together. They both shared a similar thought process, and wanted to be able to cooperate for the sake of the team. That made things much easier for her. If others transferred in as well, she could only hope they were as logical about things as the two of them.
"It's not much of a story. Father and I ran into a group of Orochi, they decided to light the place up. Fire seared my eyelids shut and permanently damaged my eye," she only gave him the basic facts of the story that pertained to the injury, not bothering with the details. She figured it'd be simpler that way and things didn't have a chance to devolve into a pity party.
Before the conversation could continue though, another entered the barracks, this one a woman. She had a suspicion as to who it was, though it was confirmed when she spoke and introduced herself as the First Lieutenant. She was the 'senior' of the group, the only remaining one of the original 13th unit. Despite being the oldest in terms of time in the team, she actually didn't look that old, definitely younger than Fred. She might even be younger than herself. Regardless, she had seniority in rank, and deserved the respect that being their superior had. Without hesitation, she stood straight up and gave a proper salute, not wanting to leave a bad impression on day one.
"Sergeant Aliya Amira; it is a pleasure to be a part of this unit, ma'am."

Well, she didn't seem to like talking about it at all, she had kept things as basic as she seemed able to do. Not that he blamed her, Wanting to work well in a team didn't mean to trust anyone right away, plus that wasn't something that'd likely help in working as a team. He'd thought of making a joke about it, just like he and his fellow squadies had done about their own wounds, KIA, and kills, but she didn't seem to find that kind of thing funny, or not yet anyway. Once you'd been in this line of work long enough you either cracked or started finding shit like that funny.
But he'd been unable to say anything at all since a young woman had walked into the barracks and identified herself as First Lieutenant Nowell, his new commanding officer. He stood up quickly and saluted the Lieutenant. She looked even younger then Aliya did, he was a bit surprised that she'd been made into a First Lieutenant already, so maybe the 13th did the kind of missions where fast promotions were expected, not that he'd try to become an officer anyway.
"I'm Sergeant Major Johnson, nice to meet you Ma'am. Do you know if we'll be getting anyone else or is it just the three of us for now Ma'am?" Fred asks her.

Well both of them seemed pleasant, not that she was an expert in human interactions. They were however odd from what she got from her file, not a trace of training with Kenificus Technology, Sergeant Amira was even unarmed most of the time. Odd ones were always gathered in the 13th, so she was sure they'd fit in like everyone before them.
"You two are the only ones the 13th is getting for awhile, if need be we'll ether be reinforced by other units if HQ thinks it's needed." Donet addressed Fred, while she put her visual examination of the two on hold, there were things that needed to be checked on afterall.
"I'm sure you two are well aware of the 13th's reputation, but you are aware of what you're getting into correct?" It was standard practice to check with new comers to the 13th, since many though their exploits were rumors or just exaggerations, normally they were not.

The First Lieutenant didn't seem like she was new to this even with her age, which was good, if the commanding officer was useless the team tended to fall apart. But she had asked if the two of them actually knew what they were getting into, and Fred shrugged. "I heard that the 13th gets into combat quite a lot and were looking to replace KIA so that's all I needed to know. Not sure what exactly it is that you'd like to hear First Lieutenant." Fred said to her.
"Is there a particular kind of combat the 13th tends to get into? Like hand to hand, stealth attacks, or even magic? Magic might cause some issues for me, not sure about Sergeant Amira though, because I'm sure you know that I don't use magic. However, even if it is one of those, I can just shoot them from anyway thanks to the beauty of firearms. So I'm worried about that." Fred says.

The two of them were the only ones going into the unit for a while? That wasn't good. Typically, a trio would be a strong, balanced group of people for a lot of things. In their case though, they needed more. They needed numbers as well as power to ensure they could take care of what needed to be taken care of. Were people truly terrified of the thirteenth unit that much?
"I have heard the rumors, and whether or not they are true, they all have to have a basis. I believe that basis is that the thirteenth unit enters combat and manages to complete their objective despite all odds. This reputation was set into place by your allies, and to be honest ma'am, I would be honored to be able to continue that in their stead." she replied, also uncertain if that was what Donet wanted to hear. But the fact was she willing asked to be transferred into the thirteenth, since aside from figuring they'd accept her despite her injury, they were the ones who could complete things no matter how mismatched they were. She would be unable to work with units such as the twelfth, as they already have a set order of things and she would most likely get in the way of that.

Well this was good they both didn't seemed to have underestimated the 13th, looks like they'd do well. But they seemed to each have their own opinions on the matter. First up was Fred's question which was rather simple to answer. "We are called in to do anything and everything we're able to accomplish, sometimes we're called in just based on our reputation to fix a situation. Like my last mission but I'm sure you know the results of that one."
Aliya seemed somewhat skeptical of their reputation, which was normal but her attitude towards keeping their reputation up was good as well. Her former commander would be proud of these two. "Well welcome once again to the 13th, if you have any other questions please ask them. Otherwise, since we're not on a mission yet once your bunk is settled you'll be free unless something comes up."

"Called in based solely on the unit's reputation? I sure hope you don't mean something like a PR stunt. I didn't request a transfer to be in some kind of circus troop. I shoot what needs to be shot, if it comes up I'm not gonna play nice for the little kiddies." Fred says before shrugging, the First Lieutenant seemed a bit easy going about all this so far, but she seemed to know what she was doing so far as well. So maybe it wouldn't be all bad, plus he was basically stuck with two women on his team for now. Not many guys could find a complaint with that.
"But I guess I'm good for now. I did have a couple questions though. Do you know when the 13th will next be getting an operation? I know recruitment is important right now, but not like we can just sit here and wait for people to show up either. Plus, you said it was just the two of us for a while so I take it that you know no one else is able to get sent or no one is willing to right now." Fred says to First Lieutenant Nowell. "And for my second question, do you know where I could get a map for this section of the city Ma'am? I need to learn my way around here."

“Honestly speaking, being part of an elite group didn’t sit well with me.” A driver was escorting him to his new base of operations. For better or for worse, he was attached to the 13ths as something like insurance, for the government anyway. On the retrospect, he himself decided to take up the task. The careful man reviewed his options a few times before deciding. Oddballs or Elites?
Oddballs it is.
Just 3 days ago Oz Rosa Vesalius was still on a desk job at Internal Security before he was called in by his superior to be “on loan” to Beowulf. As much as he didn’t expect to be dispatched to the frontline so quickly, his hopes were somehow ‘dashed’ when he was told he was going to go there to keep tabs on the paramilitary group.
The jeep stopped in front of the barracks as the officer disembarked. The jeep’s driver saluted before driving off, as Oz, bringing a light luggage and a small suitcase where his weapons were stored in, walked in.
Oz walked into the room, seeing two women and a man.
“Hm.” Oz looked at his official papers, before looking back at the three, “The 13ths, am I right?”

"No need to worry Sergeant Major, if they need PR they talk to the 1st." Donet remembered the one chance the 13th had at PR during her time with them, it didn't end well but the small memory brought a small smile to her face. But that was the past and she had to worry about these two right now.
Again Fred had asked about combat which was worrying Donet slightly, not that combat fanatics were new too the 13th. "I can't say that I know, unless the Orochi act up or we get some intel. As for the map I can't really say."
Donet began thinking about finding a map for Fred and crossed her arms below her chest. Her thoughts were interrupted when the door opened and someone joined them. Someone who seemed to be looking for them too. Turning to face the new arrival Donet looked the business man over curious to why he was here. "Yes, this is the 13th can I help you, mister..?"
She had a slight pause as she waited for the man to introduce himself and maybe find out why he was here.
